Wondering how to improve your Google, Bing, or Yahoo Local Business Center ranking? Want to know how to rank higher on Google Maps? One of the best ways to enhance your local listing is through citations. Citations are 3rd party references that contain information about your business such as name, phone number, or website address. There are a number of free online locations where you can obtain citations. Below is a list of more than 70 of the top citation sources that we use for our clients. Work your way through the list, using the same information about your business at each listing location.

In addition to this list, it is also a great idea to get your name and information listed in local directories, industry specific directories, with local newspapers, with local chambers, and with local or regional blogs and websites.

Note: To make this list helpful, most of the links send you directly to the URL to add your business.

How about Gowalla? If foursquare is on the list shouldn’t it also be included?

@Matt Thanks for the feedback. GoWalla was intentionally left off this list because it wasn’t showing as a citation source during our last check. We will be updating information again soon, if we find this to have changed we will certainly update the list.

You can read more about why it isn’t a valid citation source in this great article from Matt McGee: http://www.smallbusinesssem.com/google-crawling-foursquare-for-local-citations/2951/

This rocks! Thanks so much for the putting this together. What would make it even more fabulous is if you could indicate which were / were not free. Thanks again!
